Staff members at Frontenac School in Burlington, Ont., are trying some innovative ways with their grade 8 classes. John Fraser: A New Challenge

John Fraser SS in the Peel Board opened its doors to students in the fall of 1992, and principal Russ Jackson and his new staff faced a double challenge. In addition to beginning operations as a school, they were one of the Ontario Ministry of Education and Trainings pilot projects for the Transition Years. This program documents their success and the on-going challenge of creating new ways of working with grade 9 students.

Staying In

Albert Campbell CI in Scarborough, Ont., developed a pilot project to find innovative ways to keep grade 9 students interested in and challenged by whats going on in school, and to encourage young students to stay in school. Marshall Henkle talks with Julie West, vice-principal, and Cyril Lewis, assistant head of mathematics. The discussion is enlivened by footage of math and drama classes.
